It’s a post-watershed triumph…Lewisham’s own Mrley taps into electronic and rock genres in new single ‘So Much To Say’.
Bursting onto the scene last month with the critically-acclaimed debut single ‘My Side Of London, Marley Rutherfords new track retains the fast-paced delivery of his rap days but applies it to a harsher more distorted sound.
“It’s special to me as it contributes to the progression of my music”, says Mrley. “I managed to take a trap 808 completely out of context by using it in punk.”
The progression of his music is showcased by his playful experimentation with needling guitar work whilst remaining true to who he is by continuing to use the influences of his rap background. “It pays tribute to today’s rap music whilst even hinting at the 80s rock sound but somehow it remains punk,” Mrley adds.
The raucous single is accompanied by a music video inspired by the cult Channel 4 90’s programme The Word which is ultimate nostalgia for Mrley for through their booking of guests like Nirvana, Blur, Oasis and Rage Against The Machine, all of whom he was raised on listening to thanks to his dad. The video also captures the social progress in pushing the boundaries of what was acceptable to be shown on British TV before the watershed.
