New album ‘Sympathy For Life’ is incoming…Parquet Courts have shared their new single ‘Black Widow Spider’.
The band’s new album ‘Sympathy For Life’ is incoming, out on October 22nd through the fine people at Rough Trade Records.
A project informed by the club experience, the album was introduced by the hazy swagger of ‘Walking At A Downtown Pace’.
New song ‘Black Widow Spider’ flips this on its head, seeming to tackle punk immediacy with its wild, scorching guitar.
Seemingly largely improvised in the studio, it was then chopped up, and edited into its final form.
Parquet Courts’ own A. Savage comments: “I told [producer] Rodaidh McDonald that I wanted to find a sound that was equal parts Can, Canned Heat and This Heat. He was really into that and probably took some glee in having such a bizarre challenge.”
Shayne Edhman directs the video, and it’s worth watching for those who spent their childhoods glued to Morph.
“We were inspired by the claymation master Art Clokey,” says Ehmman. “I wanted the video to feel like it was shot in the 1950’s and so I used very old lenses. One was a brass projection lens from the 1860’s and another was radioactive.”
Tune in now.
